Spruce Lumber (SPF)

Spruce-Pine-Fir (SPF) lumber is a staple in North American construction, known for its exceptional strength-to-weight ratio, affordability, and versatility. SPF lumber refers to a combination of wood species — white spruce, lodgepole pine, and subalpine fir — that grow in the northern regions of Canada and the United States. These species are grouped together due to their similar physical and mechanical properties, making them interchangeable for construction purposes. The lumber is prized for its smooth texture, light color, and straight grain, which allow for easy cutting, nailing, and finishing. Additionally, SPF lumber is known for its superior dimensional stability, making it less prone to warping and shrinking compared to other softwoods.

At Hanford Lumber, we supply premium-grade SPF lumber sourced from responsibly managed Canadian forests, ensuring both performance and sustainability. As one of Ontario’s leading SPF lumber suppliers our SPF lumber is widely used in residential, commercial, industrial and civil construction due to its strength, durability, and adaptability.

Features:

  • Superior Quality Control: Our SPF lumber undergoes rigorous grading inspections to meet National Lumber Grades Authority (NLGA) standards.
  • High Strength & Durability: SPF lumber features an impressive strength-to-weight ratio, making it an excellent choice for load-bearing walls, trusses, and floor joists in residential and commercial construction.
  • Sustainable & Responsibly Sourced: We prioritize eco-friendly forestry practices. Our SPF is sourced from responsibly managed forests to minimize environmental impact. Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)-certified options available upon special order request (minimum quantities apply).
  • Precise Moisture Content: Our SPF lumber is kiln-dried upon manufacture to maintain an optimal moisture content of approximately 19%, helping to prevent warping, twisting, and shrinkage over time. Please note this moisture content does change over time due to shipping, storage and weather.
  • Customization Available: Need specific dimensions or special treatments? We provide custom-cut sizes and protective treatments to enhance durability, including options for pressure-treated and fire-resistant SPF lumber.
